Bike Elf challenged BGC Smoky Mountain – Sevierville Summer program participants in June 2017. The top 25 students participating in the Club’s summer program could earn a bicycle by exemplary participation in their Fit Club program.
Exemplary performance is measured by highest attendance in the Fit Club program over the entire summer and completing the PACER Fitness test. Because the PACER fitness test is typically administered to children, the point of the test is not to see who’s the fastest. It’s to teach children that they can stay in shape by learning to pace themselves. The PACER fitness test is a great tool for getting kids to enjoy working out. It also helps them see that pacing themselves can provide a great workout.
Today the children who met the challenge and achieved their goal will receive Bike Elf bicycles, a new bicycle helmet and a new lock at a special ceremony. All of the children who attend the Boys & Girls Club Smoky Mountain – Sevierville summer program will attend the ceremony to celebrate the success of the children who have worked hard to earn a bicycle.
